The PTDF is scheduled to conduct an induction exercise for the 2019 batch of Overseas Scholarship Scheme awardees. The program is scheduled to hold from 9:00am, Monday the 8th of July, 2019 (MSc Induction) and 9:00am, Wednesday the 10th of July, 2019 (PhD induction), at the PTDF towers.
During the program, the PTDF Management will formalise the awards and presentations will be made by the relevant PTDF departments to provide the awardees with information that will guide their understanding of the scholarship and provide comprehensive details (terms, conditions, & expectations) of the award.
The programme will also provide the necessary avenue for awardees to complete accept or decline the award and, in the case of acceptance, complete their accreditation and documentation processes, undergo medical checks, commence visa applications, and attend lectures and briefs providing them with general information that will be helpful to their programmes.
It will be noted that the candidates were selected out of a great number of Nigerians that applied for and were assessed for this award. The awards have been made strictly on merit to the candidates from each state and the FCT that had the best academic records and scored the highest in the final interviews.
A total of 342 MSc & PHD candidates were selected to study at various universities in the UK, France and Germany; the total number for the UK was arrived at based on 2 MSc & 2 PhD candidates per state including the Federal Capital Territory and an additional MSc slot was given to each of the 9 oil producing states, while the total number for Germany and France was arrived at based on 3 MSc & 2 PhD candidates per state including the Federal Capital Territory.
Beneficiaries are expected to fit directly into the oil and gas industry and the academia, thereby contribute positively to national development, attainment of the 70% Nigerian Content targets of government, and reduction in capital flight due to foreign skilled and semi-skilled workers operating in Nigeria.
