Prof Edward Olanipekun Emerges EKSU Vice Chancellor

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has approved the appointment of Prof Edward Olanipekun, as the new Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti (EKSU).


Professor Olanipekun was born in Ado-Ekiti on 9th March, 1966. He attended St. Paul’s Anglican Primary School A, Odo-Ado, Ado-Ekiti between Sept. 1972 and July 1977. Thereafter, he proceeded to Mary Immaculate Grammar School between 1977 and 1982 for his secondary education.
The new Vice-Chancellor bagged B.Sc degree in Chemistry in 1986, M.Sc in Industrial Chemistry in 1988 and Ph.D in Industrial Chemistry in 1995, all obtained from the University of Ibadan.
He joined the services of Ekiti State University in October 1991 as Lecturer II, became a Lecturer I in October 1993 and was promoted to the position of Senior Lecturer in October 1996.

In October 2000, he became a Reader and got to the exalted position of a Professor in October, 2003.
Professor Olanipekun has served in various capacities in the University such as Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies; Director, Directorate of Pre-Degree Programmes; Acting Head, Department of Chemistry; member, University Governing Council; member, Council Appeal Committee; member University Central Admissions Committee; member, Joint Council and Senate Selection Board for the appointment of Vice-Chancellor among many others.

He also belongs to many professional bodies like the Chemical Society of Nigeria and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (MSETAC).
Professor Edward Olanipekun was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Ekowe, Bayelsa State in 2017 by His Excellency, President Mohammadu Buhari, a position he still occupies till date.
Meanwhile, the new Vice-Chancellor has been ushered into his office in a colourful ceremony which involved hymns of praise, thanksgiving, exhortation and prayers for a successful tenure of office.
The exhortation was given by the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Bishop Felix Ajakaye, who was represented by Rev. Father Benedict Abimbola Joseph. He charged the new Vice-Chancellor not to see his emergence as victory for contest, but to be guided by the humility of Jesus Christ. The Catholic Bishop also urged him to allow the words of God to dwell richly in him as he pilots the affairs of the University.


In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun promised to introduce reforms that would benefit the University community. He promised to make the welfare of staff and students his priority while declaring that the era of ‘net’ payment of salaries was over.

The appointment takes immediate effect.
